Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a version of LuckGrib for the iPad or iPhone?

Updated: Mar 30, 2018. | By: Craig McPheeters

Update March 30, 2018:

LuckGrib is now available on iPhone and iPad!

The iOS has slightly more functionality than the macOS version in some areas, and slightly less in others. The iOS version is showing place names, such as cities and countries. The iOS version has a new meteogram feature which is super useful.

Now that the iOS version has been released, work will start to update the Mac version. The goal will be close to feature parity between the two versions.

The iOS version is a fully functional, super fast, flexible and powerful GRIB viewer. There is slightly less customization available, and the routing features from the Mac version are not yet available.

Original answer:

The iPad and iPhone (iOS) markets are interesting. LuckGrib was written specifically for the Mac market, using Apple technologies. A large portion of this effort can be used directly in an iPad/iPhone version. The UI and interaction code would need to be re-thought, re-designed and re-implemented. This isn’t a small amount of work…but it does represent an interesting market.

If LuckGrib is ever to be ported to another platform, that platform would be iOS.

The author isn’t yet committed to doing this work. If you are interested in having LuckGrib be made available on the iPad/iPhone, please let him know.
