Description
ICON D2 is DWD’s highest resolution weather model, covering Germany, Switzerland, Austria other neighboring countries.
The resolution of this model is 1.2 nm (2.2 km or 0.02°). This makes it more than 10 times higher resolution than most global models, which are typically 0.25°. This model has shorter range forecasts, offering just over one day of forecast data.
This model offers forecast data every 15 minutes, which is ideal for tracking quickly changing weather.
Note that DWD released this model on February 10th, 2021. The older model this one replaced is the DWD COSMO D2 model. ICON D2 has a slighly larger domain than the older model.
(Update: March 7th, 2022.) There are now 48 hours of weather forecasts available. Prior to this change, the forecast extended to 27 hours. Thanks to DWD for this extra data!
