Provider:United Kingdom Met Office (UKMO)
Model scope:Europe
Update frequency:every 3 hours
Resolution:[2.2nm, 4.0km] x [1.1nm, 2.0km]
Model duration:31 forecasts starting at 0 hr, ending at 2 days 6 hrs
Parameters:pressure, wind, wind gust, rain, temperature, visibility
GRIB model date:Thu Apr 23 00:00:00 2026 UTC
Download date:Thu Apr 23 05:20:59 2026 UTC
Download delay:5hr 20min

Note: the Download delay is the amount of time required for the GRIB model to compute its forecast and then for the LuckGrib cluster to download the data and make it available. The LuckGrib delay is generally less than 10 minutes, the remainder of the delay is the model compute time.

Description

In early February 2026, the UK Met Office (UKMO) announced that two of their models were being made publically available.

This is the UK region of the UKV model, the UK 2km Deterministic Weather Forecast data. There are more details here.

This single-run (deterministic, non-ensemble) configuration provides short-range forecasts out to just over 2 days, with fresh data every 3 hours.

Based on the Met Office UKV model, which is a deterministic, numerical weather prediction model for the UK and Ireland. It is a UK configuration of the Unified Model, which is the Met Office’s flagship Numerical Weather Prediction model. The model’s initial state is kept close to the real atmosphere using hybrid 4D-Var data assimilation.

UKV 2km deterministic forecast

The original data for this model is delivered on a Lambert Equal Area grid, which is not supported directly in LuckGrib. The data has been converted into a regular lat-lon grid, which has a grid spacing approximating the original data.

This model offers a spatial resolution of approximately 2km x 2km, which is fine enough to resolve small weather features. The model is updated every three hours.

Thank you to the UK Met Office for making this data available.
