Note: the Download delay is the amount of time required for the GRIB model to compute its forecast and then for the LuckGrib cluster to download the data and make it available. The LuckGrib delay is generally less than 10 minutes, the remainder of the delay is the model compute time.


COSMO D2 is DWD’s highest resolution weather model, covering Germany, Switzerland, Austria other neighboring countries.

The resolution of this model is 1.2 nm (2.2 km or 0.02°). This makes it more than 10 times higher resolution than most global models, which are typically 0.25°. This model has shorter range forecasts, offering just over one day of forecast data. Hourly forecasts are available.

Note that DWD improved this model on May 15, 2018. The former version was called COSMO DE, the new version is COSMO D2. The improved model has increased resolution, from 1.5 nm to 1.2 nm (roughly 2.8 km to 2.2 km). The coverage area has also increased, going 3° further west, now to 0°, as well as 2° further south and 1° further north.
